Common questions
How do I scan my pet's food?+
On the Home tab, tap the + button at the bottom and choose Scan. Point the camera at the food (in the bowl or in its package) — the AI identifies it and estimates calories. You can edit the portion size before logging.
How accurate is the AI calorie count?+
Estimates are based on typical portion sizes for the food the AI recognizes. For packaged kibble or wet food, accuracy is high. For homemade meals or unusual portions, review the estimate and adjust the portion size before saving.
How is my pet's daily calorie target calculated?+
We use your pet's weight, age, breed, body condition, activity level, and any goals (lose, maintain, or gain weight) to compute a personalized target. The target updates automatically as you log weight changes.
Can I track more than one pet?+
Yes. Go to your profile and tap Add Pet to create as many profiles as you need. Switch between them with the pet selector at the top of the Home tab.
What is the treat budget?+
It's a daily allowance specifically for treats, separate from your pet's main meals. Set it as a percentage of total calories — we recommend 10% as a safe ceiling. The Home tab shows treat calories remaining for the day.
How does household sharing work?+
Premium subscribers can create a household and invite other caregivers (partner, family member, dog-walker). Everyone in the household sees the same pets and meal log, so the calorie ring stays accurate no matter who fed them.
What does PetCal Premium include?+
Unlimited AI food scans, multiple pet profiles, household sharing, weight trend analytics, treat budget alerts, and meal coaching insights.
How do I cancel my subscription?+
Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. On your iPhone: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions. You can also tap Manage Subscription from the PetCal Premium screen in the app.
How do I delete my account?+
Open PetCal and go to Settings → Delete Account. You'll be asked to type DELETE to confirm. Your account is marked for deletion immediately and permanently removed within 30 days.
Why aren't my reminders arriving?+
Check Settings → Reminders in PetCal, and confirm PetCal has permission in iOS Settings → Notifications → PetCal. Also verify your device's timezone is correct — reminders are scheduled in your local time.
Can I export my pet's meal history?+
Yes. Open the Stats tab → Export Report and choose a date range. You'll get a PDF you can share with your vet or save to Files.
